胰蛋白胨在培养基中作为营养物质提供菌体细胞生长所需要的氮源、维生素、氨基酸及生长因子等；乳糖提供菌体细胞生长所需要的碳源；氯化钠维持体系渗透压平衡；磷酸盐为菌体生长提供相对稳定的酸碱缓冲体系；月桂基硫酸钠抑制非大肠菌群类细菌的生长。
Tryptone is used as a nutrient in the medium to provide nitrogen sources, vitamins, amino acids and growth factors needed for cell growth. Lactose provides carbon source for cell growth of bacteria. Sodium chloride maintained osmotic pressure balance. Phosphate provides a relatively stable acid-base buffer system for bacterial growth. Sodium lauryl sulfate inhibits the growth of non-coliform bacteria.

使用方法
Usage
称取本品35.6克，加热溶解于1000ml蒸馏水中，分装到有倒立发酵管的20mm×150mm试管中，每管10ml，121℃高压灭菌15分钟，备用。
