蛋白胨提供碳氮源、维生素和生长因子；氯化钠维持均衡的渗透压；含有色氨酸酶的细菌，能分解蛋白胨中的色氨酸，形成靛基质（吲哚）。靛基质无色，当加入对氨基苯甲酸试剂后，形成可见的红紫色醌式化合物，即玫瑰靛基质。

Sodium chloride maintains a balanced osmotic pressure; Bacteria containing tryptophanase break down tryptophan in peptone to form indole (indole). 使用方法
Usage
称取本品25.0g ，加入蒸馏水1000mL，搅拌加热煮沸至完全溶解，分装，121℃高压灭菌15分钟，备用。
